Description
The Orangutan is the only great ape that exists in Asia. Once widespread, now isolated to the threatened rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo. The population of these apes have plummeted from 300,000 to around 45,000 Bornean and 14,000 Sumatran Orangutans. Habitat loss is the greatest threat, with much of the forest being cleared for Palm Oil plantations. Both Sumatran and Bornean Orangutans are now on the Critically Endangered IUCN Red List.
